Cabinet Hinge Replacement
About This Project
This project outlines the steps to replace a cabinet door hinge, ensuring proper alignment and function of the cabinet door.
Steps
Prepare Hinge Mounting Surfaces
10 minutesInspect the mounting areas on both the cabinet frame and the back of the door. Remove any old paint, debris, or adhesive residue that might interfere with the proper seating of the new hinges. A putty knife or scraper can be useful for this. Ensure the surfaces are clean and smooth.
Install New Hinges on Door
10 minutesPosition the new hinges on the back of the cabinet door according to the manufacturer's instructions or the placement of the old hinges. Insert the provided screws through the hinge holes and into the door. Tighten the screws until the hinges are securely attached, but do not overtighten.
Attach Cabinet Door to Frame
10 minutesAlign the free side of the new hinges with the corresponding mounting points on the cabinet frame. Insert the hinge screws into the pre-drilled holes on the cabinet frame and tighten them securely. You may need to adjust the door's position slightly before fully tightening the screws.
Adjust Door Alignment
15 minutesOpen and close the cabinet door several times to check its alignment. If the door is crooked, rubs against the frame, or has uneven gaps, use the adjustment screws on the hinges (if available) or slightly loosen and reposition the hinge screws on the frame to correct the alignment. Once satisfied, firmly tighten all screws.
