Lay Out and Cut the First Stringer — Step 4: Check the Stringer Thickness
Part of project
Stair Tread Measurement · Step 4 of 5
In this video
Obtain a 2x12 piece of lumber for the stringer. Using a framing square, carefully transfer the calculated rise and run dimensions onto the 2x12, marking all cut lines with a pencil. After marking, use a circular saw to meticulously cut along these lines to create the first stringer. This initial stringer is critical as it will serve as a template; use it to accurately trace and cut all subsequent stringers, ensuring consistency across the entire staircase.
