Step 2 · Choose and Apply Patching Material
For small holes like nail pops or minor dents, a lightweight spackling paste is often sufficient. For larger holes, consider a vinyl-based joint compound or a pre-made drywall patch kit. Apply the patching material generously using a putty knife or trowel, pressing it into the hole. Smooth the surface with the putty knife, feathering the edges outwards to blend with the existing wall. Ensure the patch is slightly proud of the surface to account for shrinkage, or flush if using a quick-setting compound designed for minimal shrinkage.
