Step 3 · Allow to Dry and Apply Second Coat (if needed)

Once the first application of patching material is in place, allow it to dry thoroughly. Drying times vary significantly depending on the product used. For spackling paste and some joint compounds, shrinkage may occur, leaving a slight indentation. If this happens, apply a second, thin coat of patching material, feathering the edges once again. Ensure this second coat is also smoothed flush with the surrounding wall.
