Step 2 · Step 2: Measure the Depth of Each Tread
For each step, place your tape measure against the vertical riser at the back and extend it straight over the front edge, including the rounded part known as the 'nosing.' It's crucial for safety and a seamless look that your tape measure stays flat and level. Be sure to measure the actual wood surface—avoid measuring over old carpet, staples, or adhesive residue, as this will prevent your new treads from lying flat and adhering properly.
